Income-distribution dynamics with endogenous fertility

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze declines in fertility with education in Brazil. Three assumptions were considered, namely, higher wages reduce fertility, children of the unskilled are more likely to be unskilled, and skilled and unskilled workers are complements in production. A two-point form for the distribution of the cost of education was then used to carry out the analysis. Results indicated a number of limitations on the analysis. The tractable quali-linear utility function implied that fertility was inversely proportional to wages.
