UK retail sales of savoury spreads declined by 1.2% in real value terms in 1994-95, but the outlook for the market seems bright given the growing trend towards snacking and eating between meals. The savoury spreads market is currently fragmented, but this may change as producers diversify into other savoury spread sectors: for example cheese spread producers have extended their range to cover the ambient savoury spreads sector.
