Quality-adjusted cost functions for child-care centers

Article Abstract:

Multiproduct translog cost functions were measured for 399 child care centers in California, Colorado, Connecticut and North Carolina. Nonprofit centers that received funding assistance exhibited 18% higher total variable costs compared to other centers with consistent service quality across all observed centers. The results indicated the absence of efficiency variations between for-profit and nonprofit centers in services provision.
