Article Abstract:

A sample of 2,625 small business owner/members included in National Federation of Independent Business files was surveyed in Jun. 1995. Respondents expressed deteriorated expectations of business conditions, as shown by the 100.2 reading of the Index of Small Business Optimism. The top five major problems cited by respondents were taxes, regulation and red tape, competition from large firms, labor quality and insurance.

Article Abstract:

Small business owners are optimistic that the country's economic conditions will enable them to reach their sales targets for 1995. Record employment levels were registered in Jan. 1995 while wholesale inflation was under 2% and consumer price index-inflation was under 3%. GDP for 4th qtr 1994 was pegged at 4.5%. Many entrepreneurs believe that the period from Feb.-Apr. 1995 would be a good time to expand.

Article Abstract:

Responses to a survey conducted in Sep. 1995 among members of the National Federation of Independent Business indicated that there was slight optimism about business conditions, at least for the succeeding six months. Small business owners were generally dissatisfied about their profit and sales performance. This attitude did not, however, dampen their plans to expand and add to their inventory levels.
