Overview - small business optimism

Article Abstract:

Surveys predict that small businesses will find it difficult to achieve growth in the first half of 1997. The Index of Small Business Optimism declined in November 1996 to 99.2 and 30% of the decline may be attributed to weakening conditions of businesses and profits. The survey also revealed that inflation will not be a major problem due to a decline in the percentage of firms offering high prices. More firms were reported to raise compensation to attract employees and positive findings were seen in terms of capital spending and hiring.
