Nominal and real stochastic convergence of transition economies

Article Abstract:

The work of Kocenda is extended to investigate the sensitivity of real and nominal economic convergence of transition economies to model specification and restrictions. This new technique involves less restrictive assumptions than previous panel unit root techniques by allowing heterogeneity in convergence rates.

An analogy is drawn between the biological evolution of human characteristics from hunter-gatherer society to more sophisticated society and the evolution in an economy. Learning-by-doing is equated to indirect means of investment in the business.
