UK sales of chilled ready meals are predicted to rise to 412 million pounds sterling in 1995 after having grown by 60% in 1990-94 to reach 380 million pounds. The chilled ready meal sector has benefitted from changes in eating habits since the 1980s, such as a move towards healthy eating, demand for convenience, growing interest in foreign foods, and the growing number of women in paid employment. Retailers have driven the chilled ready meals market, with 96% of the market value being accounted for by own-label products.
