Cash management, payment patterns and the demand for money

Article Abstract:

Cash management and payments behavior were analyzed through the use of data obtained from a specially devised panel survey conducted in the Netherlands from 1990 to 1994. The survey outcome validated the transaction demand for money theory and the hypothesis of technology stemming from households' economizing on currency balances. It also showed the moderate impact of automated teller machines on currency outstanding and seigniorage.

Interest rate policy of the Deutsche Bundesbank: an econometric analysis for 1975 to 1992

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the interest rate policy of the Deutsche Bundesbank since 1975 is provided using an econometric model. The reaction of the Bundesbank to economic goals is estimated and compared to past studies. Results suggest that the Bundesbank's interest rate policy is focused towards the stabilization of price levels. On the other hand, discount rate policy is targeted towards balance of payments equilibria.

Taylor rules in a limited participation model

Article Abstract:

Taylor rules for deciding on interest rates are assessed using a limited participation model. The analysis suggests directions for monetary policy such as rises in interest rates above inflation rates, and no response to output changes in relation to trend.
