Accounting for income inequality in rural China: a regression-based approach

Article Abstract:

A study of the regression-based approach to inequality decomposition in the literature exposes their drawbacks and suggests a more flexible framework that can be used with any inequality indicator and that imposes few restrictions on the specification of the underlying income-generating function. Policy implications to reduce regional inequality in rural China are discussed.

Determinants of the performance of foreign invested enterprises in China

Article Abstract:

The key factors influencing the performance of foreign invested enterprises (FIEs) in China are considered. It was found that cash contribution by foreign parent firms and the length of an FIE's operation had a very positive effect on current profitability but not on subjective performance.

Unemployment, consumption smoothing, and precautionary saving in urban China

Article Abstract:

This study finds tht Chinese urban households are able to save for the eventuality of economic shocks, but not for educational costs, so educational subsidies are suggested.
