A Right to Live?

Article Abstract:

A baby born with spina bifida was denied operations by the parents, on the advice that the baby would die within two years but not live a life of mental retardation. A lawyer brought the family to court and the decision favored the parents. Now the Federal Department of Justice has sued the hospital for medical records to determine if there is a case for discrimination against the handicapped. The present administration states that failure to care for handicapped children violates federal law.

Dennis Nilsen confessed to fifteen killings of homosexual partners. He was sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum stay of twenty-five years. Long minimum sentences are condsidered unwise. The practice is encouraged by the home secretary, Leon Brittan.
