Article Abstract:

In France, Soplaril, a soft packaging subsidiary of Elf-Atochem, made a 1997 turnover of FFr 1.15bn, for an output of 55,000 tonnes of packaging with 1,100 employees in seven plants. It makes 30% of its turnover from exports. The objective for the future is to post a 5% to 6% annual rise in turnover through internal growth alone. The company allocates 2% of its turnover to research and development every year. The company's plants all have ISO 9002 certification, and are equipped to handle from start to delivery. Soplaril, which produces 170mn Doypack units per year, is expected to take its place among the five European leaders for soft packaging in the near future.

France: Domaines Schlumberger invests in Alsace

Domaines Schlumberger injected EUR 915,000 to build a new wine storage unit with a capacity of 3,825 hl in its production unit in the centre of Guebwiller, in Alsace . The existing capacity, worth 4,000 hl, was no longer enough as the French wine company produces 8,000 hl of wine today. In the beginning of 2002, the company will start buying premises worth a surface of 1,000 square metres where new presses will be installed.

France: Union Beurriere invests

Article Abstract:

The Union Beurriere, which is located at Vesoul in the Haute-Saone departement, made a 2000 turnover of FFr 577mn, and produced 26,000 tonnes of butter. The company plans to launch new products, including a line of spreadable products in tubs. The company is going to invest FFr 20mn from now to the end of 2002 in the purchase of two new production lines, in automation and palletization, and in increased storage capacity.
