France: Le Rouge, the new Clarins colour

, Clarins ranks fifth in sales by volume and sixth in value on the selective cosmetics market and is losing more and more market shares. Part of this might be the result of a lack of visibility because of its white packaging. The company now intends to revert this trend through its new red soft-touch packaging for its lipstick, Le Rouge, and to become part of the designer's cosmetics market as well as keep its position as skincare producer. The new package's volume of Le Rouge has been designed by Dinand. For 2000, Clarins's lipsticks posted a EUR 138.12mn turnover against EUR 132.33mn for 1998 on the French market, but since its new lipstick Le Rouge is having a great success in United-Kingdom and Canada, Clarins is confident it will get the same response on the French market and therefore expects to rank third or fourth on all cosmetics market very soon. Sophie Lambron, at the head of the cosmetics unit, responsible of the launching of Le Rouge, has disclosed all these elements in an interview given to Emballages Magazine and has even added that Clarins also believes it will have sold out all of its Le Rouge stock by 2003. In other respects, she has made it clear that Clarins will adopt the red colour to distinguish its products from those of other cosmetics groups.

FRANCE: GEMEY'S EYE SHADOW IN LIQUID FORM

French cosmetics business Gemey has introduced Cool Effect, an eye shadow which comes in fluid and liquid form. Cool Effect comes in a small tube with a special application closure which allows an easy use of the product. Cool Effect was designed by Blue Bird and the tube is manufactured by Cebal.
