FRANCE: EMIN LEYDIER SETS UP PACKAGING EMARKETPLACE

Article Abstract:

Emin Leydier, French paper group, has set up an emarketplace in English and French for packaging materials, packinline.com, in a 4-5 year around EUR 10mn investment. In April 2001 it holds 100% of the shares, but could welcome other investors later. Emin Leydier's industrial manager, Yves Herbaut, is the general manager of Packinline. The emarketplace is using suppliers who will all contribute their expertise to the start-up. Users of the site can pay as they go or take out an annual subscription. No tax is payable. In the long term, around ten companies involved in the start-up are expected to set up a monitoring and development group, ensuring that the emarketplace remains neutral. The supply chain is automated and team of six will look after the orders. The prospect of a global packaging solution, starting up in second half 2001, is promising. The software solution has not yet been decided. By end 2001 packinline hopes to have 40 suppliers and 80 buyers. The target market is medium-sized companies, with a FFr 500mn-FFr 2bn turnover. The site is not competing directly with CPGmarket.
