Article Abstract:

Six diesel superminis were evaluated for overall performance and features. They were the Citroen Saxo, Ford Fiesta, Seat Ibiza, Vauxhall Corsa, VW Polo and the Renault Clio. The best buy was the Seat Ibiza priced between 9,255 and 13,255 pounds sterling, although it did not rate as highly as some others for secondary safety. A list of specifications and prices and options is provided.

Several supermini cars are very good. The Daihatsu Charade handles well and has PAS fitted as standard. The Nissan Micra is easy to drive. The Peugeot 106 offers a comfortable ride. The Rover Metro and 100 are secure and have good handling and steering. The Toyota Starlet brakes well and should be reliable.
