Safe in a crash?
Article Abstract:
Car crash tests are inadequate. EC and UN legislators are investigating changes such as crashing into a solid obstacle at an angle of 30-degrees and a partly overlapping crash into a deformable obstacle. The secondary safety of the Citroen ZX Reflex 1.4, Vauxhall Astra 1.4i LS and Volkswagen Golf 1.8 GL were tested by crashing into a piece of aluminium honeycomb on a piece of concrete. The steering wheel, fuel lines, rear seat strength, driver's knee area and body shell strength were examined.

Article Abstract:
The results of crash safety tests on the Citroen Picasso, Mazda Premacy, Mitsubishi Space Star, Nissan Almera, Nissan Almera Tino and Renault Scenic are presented. A particular area of concern was child restraints, which did not perform well in any car.

The Renault Laguna automobile performed well during crash testing, scoring five points in the areas of front impact, child protection, side impact and pedestrian protection.
