1994-98 Volkswagen Golf/Jetta

Article Abstract:

The 1994-1998 Volkswagen Golf/Jetta subcompacts are delightful despite their high prices and questions about Volkswagen reliability. The four- cylinder models provide adequate acceleration from a standing start and lively passing power with either manual or automatic transmission. The four-speed automatic downshifts promptly to provide adequate passing power, but it lacks smoothness. These models do not suffer contant thumping from the suspension and tires in comparison to their predecessors.

1994-99 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Article Abstract:

Mercedes-Benz's 1994-1999 C-Class models offer either four- or six- cylinder engines, both of which are quiet and refined even when pushed hard. These engines produce rather leisurely acceleration from a standstill, but gather momentum quickly and deliver strong passing power. Handling is balanced, with fine grip through turns, and steering response is excellent. Overall, this C-Class generation of cars is impressive and well worth a test drive.
