Ride-along program interests publishers

Article Abstract:

Magazine publishers are interested in an experiment that the US Postal Service is planning. The plan is to permit periodical mailers to include ride-alongs of a maximum of 3.3 oz for a 10-cent flat rate. This would provide savings of up to 20 cents each depending on the level of sortation of the mailer and the host mailing. On the other hand, observers are concerned over the negative effect that the lower rate will have on lettershops or list companies since it may eliminate potential mailings or list jobs projects.
