Western contractors meet in Reno

Article Abstract:

Roughly 2,200 roofing contractors from the Western region gathered in Reno, NV, for the 26th annual convention of the Western States Roofing Contractors Assn (WSRCA). The seminar line-up at the convention reflected WSRCA's emphasis on contractor education. Sessions covered thermoplastic polyolefin single plies, modified bitumen and metal roofing systems as well as cold applied products and insulation. Other seminars covered project management, employment practices and business practices.

Small business legislation moves slowly

Article Abstract:

A slowdown in the passage of legislation aimed at helping the roofing, siding and insulation industries is expected due to the focus on the presidential election to be held in Nov 2000. One of the bills was introduced by Rep Talent who aims to provide tax incentives to spurt greater job training efforts by small firms. The legislation would provide tax credits to a wide variety of undefiend apprenticeship training programs without government oversight.

Florida building code may recognize RRCs

Article Abstract:

Registered roof consultants (RRCs) may soon be recognized on the state level in Florida. RRCs, which are presently recognized only by the South Florida Building Code, might benefit from plans to change the Florida Building Code by incorporating part of the South Florida code. The Florida Building Commission, which is pearheading the move for a single state-wide code, is expected to make a decision on a new building code in a few months.
