Article Abstract:

Swiss architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron has made few changes to the outside of the Bankside power station in London, England, to transform it into the Tate Modern art gallery. Inside, the turbine hall has been emptied and left as a vast space. The rectangular galleries are also very plain.

Three art gallery refurbishments have received lottery funding. They are the Dulwich Picture Gallery and the Wallace Collection by Rick Mather Architects, and Somerset House by Donald Insall Associates, Feilden and Mawson, Jeremy Dixon and Edward Jones.
