Rates likely to increase again in July

The US Postal Service (USPS) will announce amended postal rate increases for several classes of mail that would take effect on Jul 1, 2001. The USPS' Board of Governors is expected to reject a ruling by the Postal Rate Commission regarding the 2000-01 rate case. The USPS originally asked for average increases of 3.5% for First Class; 14.2% for periodicals; 4.9% for enhanced carrier route; 9.4% for other Standard A mail; and 1.3% for package services, including parcel post.

Potter preparing for May 6 rate increase

Article Abstract:

John E. Porter Postmaster General of the United States Postal Service has stated that the agency should prepare for possible postal price increases in May this year. He was speaking to 15,000 mailing partners at Arlington Convention Center.
