The Metal Construction Assn-sponsored Metalcon show in San Diego, CA, attracted roughly 6,100 visitors who viewed a broad variety of fabricated metal products including metal roofing systems and fasteners. A steel- framed house was exhibited on the show floor, with a number of demonstrations displaying the procedures by which to assemble the structure's steel framing members. Roofing Siding Insulation (RSI) magazine also honored the winners of its annual Metal Roofing Projects of the Year contest at the Metalcon show.

G-1 Holdings, shareholder of GAF Materials Corp (GAFMC), has filed for Chapter 11 protection in the Bankruptcy Court in New Jersey on Jan 8, 2001, due to overwhelming asbestos litigation. Company CEO William Hollins, however, explains that GAFMC remains an independent company, with no asbestos liability. It will continue to conduct business with nod differences in its operation.
