Stamford, CT-based Pitney Bowes Inc has filed a lawsuit against Stamps.com Inc, an Internet postage service firm. The case, which charges infringement of four shipping patents, was filed in the US District Court in Texas. The patents are used in various shipping and logistics systems of Stamp.com's iShip product line and covers key processes for tracking packages and mail and shipping. In Jun 2000, Pitney Bowes has filed its first complaint against Stamps.com charging infringment of patents related to postage application systems and electronic indicia.

Pitney Bowes, a Stamford, CT-based postage-meter maker, is now offering companies the chance to license 15 of its U.S. patents for personal computer metering technologies. The PC metering technologies allow customers to purchase stamps online as part of the USPS' Information Based Indicia Program (IBIP). The company also announced recently that it will soon market Click Stamp, its own version of a PC postage stamp. The moves are reportedly part of the company's strategy as iit enters the PC postage arena and starts to work with IBIP.
