Ove Arup and Partners Director and Engineer Tristram Carfrae was given the task of revitalizing the engineering division of Arup Associates in Jan 1999. Carfrae has been actively recruiting new staff from overseas and the UK. He has also been working alongside Design Director James Burford. Ove Arup have had to face the resignation of Burland who plans to set up his own practice. Several other engineers have also left the firm during the last 18 months. Burland and Carfrae were both very enthusiastic over their designs for the new City of Manchester Stadium, Manchester, England.

Bob Emmerson has been appointed chairman of the Ove Arup Partnership, effective from April 2000, replacing Duncan Michael. Emmerson has worked for Arup over four decades. The company, which recently reported a pre-tax profit of 15 million pounds sterling, on turnover of 266 million pounds sterling, employs 4800 staff and is currently seeking to expand internationally.
