Article Abstract:
Mailers who attended the 2001 Spring National Postal Forum said they are preparing for another round of postal rate increase even as the US Postal Service (USPS) said such a scenario is not yet a given. Postmaster General William J Henderson said the USPS could possibly request for a 10 to 15% rate increase. The request would be filed with the Postal Rate Commission, and could take effect as early as spring of 2002. The rate hike comes at a time when the USPS could possibly lose $2 to $3 billion in 2001.
