IBEX/Europe is being developed through the collaboration of the creators of the International Boatbuilders' Exhibition and Conference and their European counterparts. Professional BoatBuilder magazine publisher Carl Cramer, who is also the show director of IBEX, is working with Tanjja Griep, product manager of the Marine Equipment Trade Show in Europe and RAI Group representatives to create a European version in May 2001. The first IBEX/Europe is due to debut in Amsterdam with subsequent events in different European countries.

Woodland Hills, CA-based Catalina Yachts has awarded a contract to Santa Ana, CA-based Performance Catamarans to build Catalina's FJ and 420 double-handed racing dinghies. Both one-design monohulls are widely used in junior and collegiate sailing programs. The 420 is being offered in two versions. The club model incorporates a single trapeze and conventional spinnaker, while the collegiate version features both crew hiking and no- spinnaker options. The FJ has a spinnaker.

Two relatively small marine equipment makers which exhibited their products at the Miami International Boat Show in Florida have called for changes in exhibition days and hours. Hialeah, FL-based fishing gear manufacturer Biscay Rod Mfg Co and Fort Lauderdale, FL-based sanitation devices maker Headhunter Inc extolled the Miami exposition but noted that its seven-day period and length of exhibition hours, which could run to 11 hours on some days, were too long.
