Havas becomes marketing services powerhouse with $2.1 billion Snyder buy

Havas Advertising has acquired Snyder Communications Inc, a marketing firm based in Bethesda, MD, through an all stock deal worth $2.1 billion. The acquisition expands Levallois, France-based Havas Advertising's marketing services business, which is expected to comprise 60% of its total revenue. Havas Advertising, however, claims that the Snyder acquisition does not mean that it will be focusing less on traditional advertising.

Catalog faces turbo-charged course

Mid America Designs of Effingham, IL, has acquired the mail-order house Tweeks of Indianapolis, IN. Mid America, a supplier of Corvette automobile parts and accessories, said that it will rebrand the auto parts catalog into a more stylized publication including an Internet-friendly name change to Tweeks.com. The company added that the development of a more image-conscious brand would enable the catalog the survive the shifts in direct marketing trends.

New marketing force Allard emerges in Canada

Article Abstract:

Allard Johnson Communications Inc of Toronto, Ontario, will emerge from the C$2.2-million acquisition by Maxxcom Inc of a 50.1% stake in Allard and Associates of Montreal, Quebec. The new company, which will have a workforce of 130, is expected to become one of the top five Canadian- controlled marketing firms operating in Canada. Allard Johnson will be under the leadership of Terry Johnson, the former president of marketing communications company LBJ/FRB of Montreal.
