Article Abstract:

UK glazing contractor MAG has seen very mixed fortunes since it was founded in 1943. It enjoyed expansion until 1985, and then began to encounter financial difficulties because it was involved in two contracts with very low margins. However, it benefited from being purchased by Tarmac subsidiary Briggs Amasco Curtainwall, and was able to gain a number of contracts to take it through the recession in the late 1980s. It was almost dissolved by Tarmac in 1992, but managers managed to arrange for it to be taken over by Hansen Group.

Stone Products Corp. of Napa, California is to enter the European market. It plans to open a manufacturing plant in Europe by 1995 and will promote three products. The products, Cultured Stone, Pro-fit and Cultured Brick are noted for their high quality which Stone Products hope will overcome the poor image of artificial stone in Europe. Made from stone, lightweight aggregate and Portland cement, the products compare with natural stone in price but are faster to lay.
