Lillian Vernon, the US-based catalog company, has partnered with Great Universal Stores (GUS) to test a personalized gift catalog in the UK. The 64-page book will fill a a previously underserved niche in the UK catalog market, said Ken Wolfe, head of GUS' niche catalog program. For Lillian Vernon, the test will continue its overseas expansion, which has already taken its catalog to Japan. The Japanese test has had mixed results as the economic crisis has forced Vernon to put the catalog on hold.

Comparison shopping service DealTime.com of New York has launched its service in the UK. The company said that its new site, dealtime.co.uk, will allow surfers to compare and contrast British online merchants for products at local pound sterling prices. The site will initially cover products such as appliances, electronics, office supplies, computers, home and garden, video games, flowers, gifts and software.
