Article Abstract:
The Direct Marketing Assn (DMA) has launched its e-Mail Preference Service on Jan 10, 2000. The service allows consumers worldwide to opt out of receiving unsolicited commercial e-mails from DMA members and other marketers who use it. The DMA requires members who market to consumers to cross-reference their e-mail lists with the e-MPS to deleted e-mail addresses of consumers who have registered. However, the service is being boycotted by consumers groups such as the Mail Abuse Prevention System and the Coalition Against Unsoliited Commercial E-Mail.
