DoubleClick, Topica sign e-mail deal

Topica Inc of San Francisco, CA, and DoubleClick Inc of New York have entered an agreement that is aimed at developing an e-mail list that will be managed by DoubleClick. Topica, a e-mail newsletter firm, is hoping that the deal will bring additional members to its Web site, www.topica.com. The deal is also part of DoubleClick's strategy to build its e-mail marketing capability, a strategy it began in 1999 with the release of its Dartmail marketing product.

Firms hope parcel boxes will strengthen e-marketing's last link

Article Abstract:

Internet retailing firms are conducting studies on how to solve the remaining problem in electronic marketing, how to deliver goods bought online when there is no one at home during delivery. Studies indicate that 75% of households are vacant during the day. A number of companies are developing hi-tech parcel boxes specifically intended for products bought online. While some retailer-specific boxes have been developed, the process of delivering them to their intended addresses is regarded by some as very time-consuming and complex.

DoubleClick buy gives site data control

Article Abstract:

Leading online advertising network New York, NY-based DoubleClick Inc has signed a definitive agreement to acquire San Mateo, CA-based NetGravity Inc for $530 million. The latter is the leading provider of software for managing online direct marketing and advertising. Its flagship product is AdServer. The acquisition will position DoubleClick to sell software which enables Internet World Wide Web sites serve their own advertisements.
