Article Abstract:
American direct marketers planning to enter the Latin American markets will find a very mixed bag of economies. South America's largest nation, Brazil, presents the greatest potential. It is getting high marks from the International Monetary Fund for a policy of restraint in monetary and fiscal policy that brought an economic turnaround. Mexico is in an euphoric state following Vincente Fox's victory in the presidential elections.

Article Abstract:
Latin America's mailing list industry is seeing the entry of more players and an increase in list quality and reliability. Local list companies are also becoming more in touch with each other and aware of the potential of neighboring markets. US companies, however, are still wary in entering the market or buying and renting lists partly because the Asian financial crisis has undermined confidence in emerging markets.
