Delco Remy selling off its marine businesses

Delco Remy International Inc. is dropping its marine business by selling in middle of August 1998 particular assets of its Marine Corp. of America (MCA) engine unit in Franklin, IN, to Brunswick Corp.'s Mercury Marine division, which is based in Fond du Lac, WI, for an undisclosed amount. In addition, Delco Remy also sold the assets of its Marine Drive Systems unit in Peru, IN, to Indianapolis, IN-based International Marine Systems LLC for an undisclosed sum. Marine Drive Systems is a manufacturer of stern-drive propulsion systems for recreational and commercial water vehicles, while MCA marinizes diesel engines and supplies boatmakers in Europe, the Middle East and North America. The sale of its marine businesses is part of Delco Remy's move to concentrate on its vehicle parts business.

Marine Accessories Corp (MAC) has bought Xtreme Marine of Loudon, TN, its sixth acquisition within two years. MAC manufactures marine accessories such as boat covers, bimini tops, towers, trailer and fishing accessories. It is made up of Westland Industries, Great Lakes Boat Top Co, Todd Box Management, Fentress Marine and Boatswain's Locker. On the other hand, Xtreme Marine makes wakeboard arches for tournament ski boats and other tower products.

Italian group buys Mathers Controls

Article Abstract:

Mathers Controls has been bought by ZF Marine Group, which manufactures marine propulsion controls from Padova, Italy. The former is a 50-year-old company that sells multistation propulsion controls for boats ranging from 25 to 400 ft. Its products are being sold under the MicroCommander, MasterCommand and ClearCommand brands of pneumatic systems and shaft brakes. Mather will continue to produce these products at its facility in Burlington, WA.
