Article Abstract:
The use of Loran-C marine navigation system has been extended until 2008 after a study done by Booz-Allen & Hamilton showed that it would cost the Dept of Tourism almost $100 million to replace it with Global Positioning Systems (GPS) by 2000. The proposal also generated a lot of criticisms from the public, who argued that Loran and GPS complement each other. Civilian users of GPS also complain about the deliberate jamming done by US military on GPS signals.
