Czechs win back the work

Article Abstract:

The construction market in the Czech Republic is becoming increasingly competitive, with local construction firms now beginning to rival western European firms. Most UK construction companies operating in central Europe now believe that the wisest approach is to present themselves as a local concern with a UK parent available to offer assistance if required. Czech construction firms have adopted the programme and budget discipline of foreign firms, and this means that they are being trusted to complete projects effectively.

Biting back

Article Abstract:

Small UK contactors are forming consortia to help overcome the trend towards commissioning large firms to take on important and costly contracts. Small contractors face a difficult task when competing against large firms, although they form an impressive force when acting together to gain a contract. Up to 49 small firms have joint the Key Consortia in Portsmouth, with bids of up to 100 million pounds sterling being made on behalf of the group. Contractors claim so many firms working together may cause management problems.
