Cost rockets at Terminal 5

Article Abstract:

BAA currently has a budget of 1.8 billion pounds sterling for the construction of Terminal 5 at Heathrow airport. However, the estimated cost of the project has now risen to 2.7 billion pounds sterling. The revised cost takes account of a new baggage-handling system, an anticipated rise in civil engineering costs and the excavation of a hole to accommodate the baggage-handling system. BAA is now looking at ways of reducing the cost of the project before detailed design work begins in spring 1999.
