Article Abstract:
Cincinnati Bell Telephone (CBT), which offers local exchange services in the Cincinnati, OH, area, has corrected, updated and organized its customer database in a bid to become more competitive in the deregulated telecommunications market. Origin Technologies, an information technology consulting firm and a subsidiary of Phillips Electronics, had implemented CBT's database-cleanup project that was began in 1996 and completed in the summer of 1998. One of the objectives of the cleanup project was to enable CBT's customer service representatives to determine whether to open up a new account or to simply add data to the customer's existing account. CBT likewise wanted to make sure that each customer received only one bill and a single direct mail solicitation.
