Breakouts force prison re-bid

Article Abstract:

Four teams that have bid for contracts to build and operate new prisons in Fazakerley, England and Bridgend, Wales, must make revised bids due to Home Office concerns that the prison designs may be inadequately secure. The contracts are worth 100 millon pounds sterling combined. The Home Office is becoming increasingly anxious about prison security following a spate of highly publicized prison escapes. The contractors comprise Alfred McAlpine, Tarmac, Trafalgar House and Mowlem Sir Robert McAlpine.

300m pounds sterling prison bids sought

Article Abstract:

The UK home office plans to construct prisons in Bristol, Manchester, Essex and Birmingham, investing a total of 300 million pounds sterling. It has requested a small group of contractors to bid for the work, which is expected to go ahead regardless of the outcome of the forthcoming general election. All four schemes must yet gain planning permission, and the negotiations for planning permission may be the responsibility of the winning bidders.

Tarmac to pilot steel-framed houses in UK

Article Abstract:

Tarmac's housing subsidiary is planning to establish large scale trial projects for steel-framed houses across the UK over the next few months. The company has already researched the possibilities of the sure-build steel-framed homes system, and is now thought to be seeking to work with manufacturers to ensure that potential public fears that steel-framed houses may rust are handled sensitively.
