Article Abstract:
HCFC-245fa, pentane and water are the three possible replacements for HCFC-141b, the primary blowing agent for spray polyurethane foam. HCFC- 245fa shares many of the properties of 141b but does not contain chlorine, which depletes the ozone. However, only Honeywell has been authorized to manufacture HCFC-245fa. On the other hand, pentane has all the characteristics of 141b but offers better facer adhesion and dimensional stability.

Article Abstract:
A report by RSI magazine has found that many fiber glass insulation contractors are experiencing considerable difficulty in finding the manpower to install their products. The report found that only 3% of the respondents experienced a shortage of fiber glass insulation in 2000, a figure which is dramatically lower than that of 1999. Two of every three insulators interviewed said that it has become harder to find skilled labor.

Commercial roofing contractors are having a harder time looking for skilled workers. A survey conducted by Roofing Siding Insulation magazine found 81% of contractors saying it has become more difficult to find mechanics and supervisors. Contractors, however, are becoming pro-active, with more than 90% of respondents saying they have launched training programs designed to hone roofing skills.
