Threat of structural decline

Article Abstract:

The UK construction industry saw output decline 1% to 12.4 billion pounds sterling in the second quarter of 1995 from the year-earlier period, according to DOE figures. The value of new work won by contractors fell 10% to 5.058 billion pounds sterling. If these trends continue, the UK construction industry could see a decline in its long-term international competitiveness, according to the Building Material Producers.

Move on up

Article Abstract:

The construction industry is still going through a period of high unemployment, so it is more important than ever to ensure that a job application is as effective as possible. Some employers choose to headhunt, while others prefer to advertise a position. Applicants should not be unrealistic about salary demands, and should be careful not to criticise former employers if they are selected for interview.
