Lights fantastic

Article Abstract:

Leeds, England has implemented a controversial urban improvement scheme. Five central streets have been pedestrianised and furnished with contemporary style structures. The structures, designed by architect, Faulkner Brown, form gateways to the pedestrianised streets, lighting, seats, litter bins and planters. There is debate over the scheme's relation to the Victorian buildings. Leeds city council intends the Landmark Leeds scheme to attract people to the city throughout the day and night and hopes it will improve Leeds' image as a European city.
