5-day delivery gets 'no' vote

The US Postal Service (USPS) was criticized by lawmakers and mailers for exploring the notion of cutting mail delivery to five days a week. The USPS Board of Governors decided to study a reduction in mail delivery and the consolidation of facilities. The cost savings from both moves could offset the projected deficit of $2 billion to $3 billion in 2001. Mailers and direct marketers were concerned about the concept of five-day delivery. The idea is expected to have a devastating impact on the US economy.
