2001: return of the traditional retailer

Article Abstract:

The year 2001 will witness the rapid consolidation and elimination of many pure-play retailers and the dominance of physical stores. Panelists at a National Retail Federations 90th Annual Convention and Expo session believe that of the 32 e-commerce companies quoted on the Nasdq in 2000, only eight will remain by the middle of 2001 due primarily to lack of capital. Of the survivors, four companies are expected to be profitable or to remain two quarters or less from being profitable.
