Article Abstract:
Drake & Scull, mechanical and electrical contractor for the Jubilee Line Extension project in London, England, has drawn up an innovative pay deal based on bonuses for fast working. This comes amid rumours that the company is finding it difficult to complete its work on schedule for the already delayed spring 1999 opening. Under the deal, electricians would have the opportunity to earn up to 1,156 pounds sterling a week, 347 pounds sterling more than current rates. However, there will be penalties for being involved in industrial action and for defective workmanship.

Article Abstract:
Consortium London and Continental, which includes SG Warburg, Ove Arup and Partners and Virgin, is now on a shortlist with Eurorail, a consortium led by Balfour Beatty and Trafalgar House, to build and run the Channel Tunnel Rail Link. It is now seeking contractors for the 2.8 million pounds sterling project, and is planning to appoint contracts without a stake in the Rail Link through tenders at a late stage. This will ensure that construction costs are kept to a minumum.
