Latest printers swoop in, aiming to grab market shares from ink-jet systems

Article Abstract:

Laser and color printers' popularity is increasing and they are posing a threat to ink-jet printers because of their high-technology features. Color printers, most of which adopt electrostatic systems employing dry toners, are at par with monochrome laser printers in prices and functions. Some of the most successful color printers that reached the US can produce three to five full-color sheets in one minute and the desktop models are available for around $2,000.

Medium-size color printers are enjoying healthy sales as professional printers, desktop publishers and photographers warm up to their capabilities. The increasing adoption of a computer-to-plate system within the US printing industry, for instance, has been fueling demand for mid-size color printers with color management functions. The ability of the printers' to connect to any network and operating system has also made them attractive to users.
