Article Abstract:
The growth of corporate intranets combined with the projected growth of corporate training are driving the market for corporate online training, which is projected to grow to $1.5 billion in the year 2000. The emergence of online training authoring software is making the once-formidable task of creating online materials easier. These programs reduces the time it takes to develop the programs, enable faster course updates, and allow companies to save money on development costs while using it on custom solutions whenever necessary. Product prices range from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands, depending on the number of users. Online training authoring programs provide frameworks and templates for content, as well as supply the back-end server for delivering courses. Among the packages in the market are Pathlore's Phoenix Internet and Avilar's WebMentor.

Article Abstract:
It is relatively easy to develop simple Web sites, but adding sophisticated multimedia technologies can be difficult. The key to developing an effective Web site is to identify the target audience and the operating systems, monitor sizes, connection speeds and browsers they are likely to use. Server log files can identify the number of page hits as well as the browsers and operating systems used to access the site. The site developer should initially focus on navigation and categorization design for the long term. The site should offer a compelling experience that meets the users' needs and capabilities. JavaScript is highly recommended for enhancing the users' experience. The site should be tested on a variety of systems, various sizes of monitors and different operating systems.

Article Abstract:
Netscape Communications' JavaScript scripting language can be used to provide Web users with a unique experience, such as floating control bars or pop-up windows. The easy-to-use and powerful language can be written into HTML using a simple text editor. American Cybercast used JavaScript to add multimedia components to its on-line space opera. The JavaScript program allows users to obtain more detailed versions of images by clicking on a button. The JavaScript program resides in a tag within the Head tag of an HTML document. Browsers that do not support JavaScript will ignore these tags. HotWired uses a JavaScript program to generate a control palette that connects users to central parts of their Web site.
