Article Abstract:
Digital systems have been incorporated into plain paper copiers (PPC). Digital copiers operate by converting light to electric signals through a process called photo-electric conversion. The image scanning unit processes the image. The charge coupled device is the converter used for the digital PPC. The line image sensor is the group of light-detecting elements. An A-D converter, line-memory shade processing unit, and black and white designation unit comprise the image processing unit. The black and white designating unit transmits signals to the printer laser modulator. A page memory device may make editing functions possible. Diagrams of photocopier operations are included, as is a photo of Canon's NP-9030 laser printer.

Article Abstract:
There is an increase in the development of intelligent plain paper copiers (PPCs) that use digital technology. This intelligent PPC contains features such as: reads an original electronically, stores images as digital signals, processes the signals in a microcomputer, uses a laser printer to produce the output copy. These copiers are capable of using digital signals to edit-modify image information, move, delete and reverse information, make an image bigger-smaller, blend an image with other images and copy the results. PPCs require the use of sophisticated electronic components with considerable memory capacity that place the copiers at a high cost level.

Article Abstract:
Photocopier manufacturers are focusing upon the small size plain paper copier (PPC) market. Sales for small size PPCs are expected to exceed 100,000 units in two to three years. These small-size PPCs offer features such as paper feeders, cartridges, and single color copying capabilities. Offices represent the primary users of these systems. Manufacturers are focusing upon smaller, lighter and less expensive PPCs to attract a larger user market. There is a chart of photocopiers.
