Application of Digital Technology to Copiers

Article Abstract:

Digital systems have been incorporated into plain paper copiers (PPC). Digital copiers operate by converting light to electric signals through a process called photo-electric conversion. The image scanning unit processes the image. The charge coupled device is the converter used for the digital PPC. The line image sensor is the group of light-detecting elements. An A-D converter, line-memory shade processing unit, and black and white designation unit comprise the image processing unit. The black and white designating unit transmits signals to the printer laser modulator. A page memory device may make editing functions possible. Diagrams of photocopier operations are included, as is a photo of Canon's NP-9030 laser printer.
