Article Abstract:

Spring sales of telephone answering machines were not as good as in the first quarter. Sales are expected to increase in the last half of the year. Prices are lowering now and mass merchants are getting into the business. The public's perception of answering machines is more positive now. Photographs of some machines are included.

Every cloud has a silver lining. For the electronics industry the silver lining is that almost every product category is projecting growth for 1984. The cloud is that in almost as many categories projecting growth, shakeouts are predicted.
