Anatomy of a WP System, Part V: the Printer

Article Abstract:

Since a mind-boggling number of options must be assessed when considering a printer for word processing output, a decision must first be made on the quality and format desired and the permissible cost. One must select among dot matrix, daisywheel, inkjet, or other mechanisms and choose from a range of speeds. A purchaser must select the pitch or vertical character size as well as the print density. Costlier printers allow operator intervention, programmable alterable page length, and accommodation of various paper sizes and composition.

Anatomy of a WP System Part IV - The Software

Article Abstract:

Bette Primrose gives an explanation of software - what it does, where it resides, and what kinds there are. The software market is expected to grow six times, to $6.7 billion, by 1987. The CP-M operating system, used on 700 machines, has become a standard on which much compatible software is based. Choosing from 10,000 applications programs is akin to shopping in the supermarket.
