Developers of help desk packages have implemented alert systems that inform help-desk technicians regarding situations that need their attention. Datawatch Corp of Wilmington, MA, has added the Q-Alert module to its Q-Support help-desk software which allows technicians to be informed via alpha numeric pagers about problems. DK Systems Inc of Chicago, IL, said that the new alert system for its DKHelpDesk product boosted the communications to technicians, and enable the help desk to keep in closer touch with the systems it covers.

Computer support tools providers are coming out with products designed to help IT problem solvers in all levels of an organization. These new products, while not providing traditional diagnostic capabilities, assist traditional IT problem solvers in dealing with an ever growing number of equipment and products. Some of the tools provide a programming environment that allows technicians to get at the root of the problem through a question-and-answer format.

Strohl Systems' BIA Professional 2.0 is equipped with an open method for entering contingency planning data. Similarly, Tamp Computer Systems' product is equipped with a data-base model for the retrieval and storage of company information.
